Lanette has headed back to the US for the first time in 3 1/2 years, for a Christmas visit and a chance to celebrate her parent's 50th wedding anniversary.  The boys and I will be surviving without her for two weeks, enjoying baseball, the beach and the beautiful summer Christmas weather Down Under.

We saw Lanette off on the first leg of her flight from Perth's International Terminal.  We watched from a brand new viewing platform at the end of the runway as her plane take off.  Peter took photos and video of her Jetstar plane taking off.  Her 42-hour, 4-leg flight stops in Bali, Singapore and Tokyo on the way to Chicago.

The boys and I attended the Perth Heat v Melbourne Aces game in the Australian Baseball League.  It happened to be "Luke Hughes Bobblehead Night", so we all came home with our own.  Luke is originally from Perth but has been in the Twins organisation for over 10 years now and played about half a season in the Major Leagues last season.

The Heat won 2-0 with a save by Brendan Wise who closed out the ninth.  Wise was recently signed to a minor league deal by the Twins after having a solid season at Triple A in the Detroit organisation with an ERA less than 2.  Wise is also originally from the Perth area, having attended Warnbro Community High School which is right next door to our Lutheran school.  The boys and I enjoyed being introduced to him following the game.

In the photo at right is Peter's collection of bobbleheads: Tori Hunter, Martin Luther and the new Luke Hughes.

Lanette arrived safely in Chicago - 43 hours after leaving Perth.  Now she's got just 10 days to pack in catch up time and late night Scrabble games with family.
